The Big Sky pilot project offers a home for young people and young families who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in Melton. Core to this offer is the support component which ensures young people have the support, wraparound services and investments required to achieve their goals.
Hope Street is currently building a First Response Youth Service Centre in the City of Whittlesea to respond to the needs of youth homelessness in Melbourne’s northwest growth corridor. This nation leading, therapeutically designed youth refuge centre will provide holistic, wrap-around support for young people and young families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. At the heart of the centre is a heritage gumtree which reflects connection to community and country.
This project equipped young people experiencing homelessness with the basic life skills needed for independent living and encouraged positive interactions between residents in the Hope Street in Melton program. Group sessions provided practical information, education and support for young people to actively participate in their community.
This project equipped 120 young migrants and refugees experiencing homelessness, aged 16 - 25 years and residing in Hope Street's Refuge and Supported Youth Accommodation facilities in Whittlesea, Melton and the Northern Metro region, with the basic life skills needed for independent living and to encourage positive interactions with each other.
